Periodic attitude control techniques for small satellites with magnetic actuators

چکیده
The problems of attitude stabilization and disturbance torque attenuation for a small spacecraft using magnetic actuators is considered and a solution to the problem in terms of optimal periodic control is proposed, based on an optimal estimation and compensation scheme for external disturbances for linear time-periodic systems.

Periodic H2 synthesis for spacecraft attitude control with magnetorquers and reaction wheels
Particularly attractive for small satellites, the use of magnetic torquers for attitude control is still a difficult problem. Indeed, equations are naturally time-varying and suffers from controllability issues. In this paper, a generic model, taking different kinds of pointing and different kinds of actuators into account, is proposed, linearized and then discretized. Recent studies demonstrat...
متن کاملCLASSICAL vs MODERN MAGNETIC ATTITUDE CONTROL DESIGN: A CASE STUDY
Electromagnetic actuators are a particularly effective and reliable technology for attitude control of small satellites. As is well known, the main difficulty in the design of attitude control laws based on such actuators is related to the fact that magnetic torques are instantaneously constrained to lie in the plane orthogonal to the local direction of the geomagnetic field vector. Controllabi...
متن کاملApplication of Magnetic Sensors to Nano- and Micro-Satellite Attitude Control Systems
These days, nano (1 kg – 10 kg ) and micro (10 kg – 100 kg) – satellites, which are smaller than conventional large satellite, provide space access to broader range of satellite developers and attract interests as an application of the space developments because of shorter development period at smaller cost. Several new nanoand micro-satellite missions are proposed with sophisticated objectives...
متن کاملA Brief Survey of Attitude Control Systems for Small Satellites Using Momentum Concepts
High-accuracy pointing capabilities are desired for many three-axis stabilized small satellites. Momentum-based attitude control system actuators, initially developed for larger satellites. are being utilized by small satellites to meetthesc pointing requirements. This paper provides an overview of momentum devices available for small satellite applications and three-axis attitude control syste...
متن کاملOptimal Discrete-time Magnetic Attitude Control of Satellites
The problem of designing discrete-time attitude controllers for magnetically actuated spacecraft is considered. Several methods are discussed and a novel approach to the tuning of ”projection based” controllers is proposed relying on periodic optimal output feedback control techniques. The main advantages of the proposed method are discussed and illustrated in a simulation study. Copyright c ©2...
